Kaivalya Yoga is proud to bring one of the nation’s most innovative yoga teachers to Madison!
DJ HyFi, a yoga instructor who fuses electronic music with yoga practices, will visit Kaivalya Yoga on Wednesday, March 9th to lead a 2-hour class alongside Kaivalya instructor Alex. HyFi, alter ego of Boston native Ian Hyman, developed an ability to mix music with yoga during his teen years. Before practicing on the mat in a studio, HyFi experienced the relaxation and rejuvenation of yoga while creating music. “[It] was my first yogic practice, through making music, I experienced a state of heightened awareness that would come and go without explanation. When I was in that state, the inspiration would flow steadily and composing tunes was a breeze.”
HyFi believes that his music can help increase the benefits of yoga for any yogi: “Our experience on the yoga mat can be deeply nourished with this ever expanding palette of sound. Like a collage artist combines images, a DJ weaves songs together, to create a larger experience. Combining the power of asana with the sonic tapestry created by a DJ, opens the door to a unique yogic journey…”
Ian comes to Kaivalya on his Yoga Meets Live DJ tour, where he brings the unique practice of Nada yoga–”the yoga of sound”–to studios across the nation. Nada yoga is more than just top 40 hits playing on an iPod; instead, the waves and rhythms of the music create an internal awareness of one’s self… perfect for relaxing before midterm exams and a great kickoff for Spring Break.
In addition to touring the country, DJ HyFi also writes for Yoganonymous, a blogging site dedicated to the modern day yogi. If you’d like to check out what DJ HyFi has to offer, you can grab his Summer 2010 mix here.
